Tech Tip: Declutter Your Digital Photos (While Freeing Up Smartphone Space!)

Ever wondered how professional organizers tackle digital photo clutter? My friend Aimee Hutzell from Inspired Living NW shares one of her favorite tools for taming the photo chaos.

Woman looking at phone photos

If your smartphone camera roll is anything like mine, it looks more like a digital jungle than a neatly organized album. I now have a collection of close to 30,000 photos on my iPhone so when it comes time to find a specific image, I’m in trouble!

Part of the fun with this blog is sharing resources that will help cut down on the feeling of overwhelm — some of which happens over time without us even realizing it.  Two contributing factors that play into this feeling are:

Excessive Digital Clutter: Think of digital clutter like your phone’s photo gallery but with everything – a jumble of old emails, forgotten files, and way too many apps. It’s like your digital world’s playing a never-ending game of hide-and-seek, making it super hard to find stuff and stay focused. Total chaos!

Lack of Effective Systems: Without effective organizational systems and routines, it’s easy to feel chaotic. This includes not having specific places for items, no clear filing system, or a disorganized approach to task management. When systems aren’t in place, or the existing systems are not efficient, it becomes challenging to maintain order and stay on top of tasks.

A good place to start cutting down the digital clutter is the camera roll.  I’ve always had good intentions of organizing my photo library, but who wants to spend precious time sorting through years of images?  When I met up recently with Aimee, she shared her pro organizer method and introduced me to Utiful – an app specifically designed for keeping digital photos organized. Suddenly, I saw a glimmer of hope for my photo chaos.

What sets Utiful apart is its ability to not just copy but move photos from your camera roll into categorized folders. This isn’t just about decluttering; it’s about efficient organization, quick access, and maintaining a tidy camera roll.

Available for both iPhone and Android, Utiful offers an annual plan at $39.99 and a monthly option for $3.99. You can easily download it from the app store.

Curious how it works? Aimee graciously agreed to provide a brief demo (in less than 2 minutes) so you can see firsthand how Utiful works for photo management.
