How attending a women’s executive leadership program at UC Berkeley resulted in the creation of Career Insight Studio – and an awesome resource for planning your best decade yet.
What would you say if I asked you the question: “Are you living a life by design or default?”
Most busy working parents would say a little of the former, and a whole lot more of the latter.
So many of us get so caught up in day-to-day routines – striving to excel at our jobs while balancing all of the other demands in life – that we lose sight of those big-picture goals.
We often have a tendency to overestimate what we can accomplish in a year while underestimating what we can do in a decade.
My Way Forward Towards a More Purposeful Life
Last year, I attended an outstanding women’s executive leadership program at UC Berkeley.
During a leadership simulation led by Carolyn Buck Luce, a Managing Partner at Imaginal Labs, she introduced the concept of “The Decade Game.”
This framework, which she created, serves as a guide for women to uncover their purpose, recover their power, and discover their destiny in various aspects of their lives, including at home, at work, and in the world. The goal is to help women create the best decade of their lives.
Her message resonated deeply with me because I personally love planning – both at work and on the home front. Unlike New Year’s resolutions, where you plan lofty goals for the year, this was the first time I looked at my life from a ten-year perspective.
It also became the catalyst for me to step back and consider what I truly wanted and where to put my energy.
Career Insight Studio is Here!
After this exercise, I realized that a big part of what brings me happiness and a sense of purpose is helping other working moms like myself access real-world life and career advice through practical tips and actionable insights. Earlier that year, I had started working on a blog to do just that, so it reinvigorated me to continue moving that idea forward. And now it has become a reality!
Designed to be a collection of insights from myself and other working women, Career Insight Studio is where I’ll share the best in personal and professional development for women who want to live life on purpose and with purpose.
Think of it as the kind of wisdom you’d excitedly swap with a friend over a cozy cup of coffee – if Real Simple and The Muse had a baby — that’s the warm vibe I’m working towards.
In the next post, I’ll share how to claim your epic identity that supports your decade destination plan.
Here’s to an epic decade ahead!
